DNVGL RP O501 Pipeline Erosion Rate

Calculate DNVGL-RP-O501 piping erosion rate and pipe weld erosion rate from fluid velocity and sand rate.

The erosion rate calculations for straight pipes and welded joints are calibrated for carbon steel pipes. The calculators include options for other materials from table 3-1. These materials are not covered by the code (use the options carefully).

CALCULATOR : DNVGL-RP-O501 Section 4.5 Erosion Rate For Smooth Straight Pipes [PLUS]   ±

Calculate the erosion rate for smooth straight pipe (DNVGL-RP-O501 section 4.5). The DNVGL model is suitable for vertical pipes, and can also be used for horizontal pipes provided that fluid velocities are high enough to disperse the sand.

The DNVGL model has been extended using equations 4.1-4.5 to include pipe materials other than carbon steel (engineering judgement is required).

CALCULATOR : DNVGL-RP-O501 Section 4.6 Erosion Rate For Welded Pipe Joints [PLUS]   ±

Calculate the erosion rate upstream and downstream of weld joints and step profiles (DNVGL-RP-O501 section 4.6). If the incident angle on the upstream weld is unknown, a conservative value of 60 degrees (1.047198 radians) should be used.

The DNVGL downstream weld calculation has been extended using equations 4.1-4.5 to include pipe materials other than carbon steel (engineering judgement is required).
