| UNIT : Unit : Acceleration 01 : Gravitational Acceleration G : Unit Conversion Tool
Description : Convert between linear acceleration units.
Standard Unit : STD unit gravity [g = 9.80665 m/s²]. SI unit meters per second squared [m/s²].
Discussion : Accelerationj has dimension length per time squared. Imperial acceleration units are based on the US statute foot = 0.3048 meters.
Gravitational acceleration is the acceleration of a mass due to the gravitational attraction force, and is also commonly referred to as the gravity acceleration, the acceleration due to gravity, the gravity force, the specific gravity force or the gravity force per unit mass. Gravitational acceleration varies depending where on the earths surface you are located. Gravitational acceleration is higher at the North and South poles, and is lower at the equator. For example at sea level at the North and South poles, gravity equals 9.832 m/s². At sea level on the equator gravity equals 9.780 m/s². Gravitational acceleration also reduces with altitiude. By convention, the standard gravitational acceleration is taken as 1 g = 9.80665 m/s².
