- British Thermal Unit (Btu) = energy required to heat 1 lb of water by 1 degree F
- therm = 100,000 Btu
- Centigrade Thermal Unit (Ctu) = energy required to heat 1 lb of water by 1 degree C
- kilowatt hour [kWhr] = 1 kilowatt times one hour
Note the energy required to heat water depends on the ambient pressure and temperature. The energy quantities must therefore be measured at standard temperature and pressure conditions.
