Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Matthew 7:17-19

Pitot Tube Calculators

Description : Bernoulli Pitot tube calculators.

Discussion : Pitot tubes measure the combined static pressure and dynamic or velocity pressure. Pitot tubes are commonly used to measure the water speed of water craft. They are useful in situations where the static pressure is small compared to the Pitot pressure, or where the static pressure is constant and can be calibrated out.

CALC : Flow : Bernoulli 051 : Pitot Tube Velocity - From Pressure : Calculator

Description : Calculate the fluid velocity from the pressure difference in a Pitot tube.

Discussion : Pitot tubes are commonly used to measure the velocity of power boats. Pitot tubes measure the the pitot pressure (the sum of static and dynamic pressure). The fluid velocity can be calculated from the pitot pressure provided that the static pressure of the fluid is negligible. On boats the pitot tube is mounted close to the surface of the water so that static pressure effect is small. Constant static pressure can be compensated for by the instrumentation.

Input Variables :

  • ρ = Fluid Density
  • Pp = External Fluid Pitot Tube Pressure

Output Variables :

  • V = Fluid Velocity

Calculation :

V = √( 2 Pp / ρ )

CALC : Flow : Bernoulli 052 : Pitot Tubes Pressure - From Velocity : Calculator

Description : Calculate the pressure in a Pitot tube from the fluid velocity.

Discussion : Pitot tubes measure the pitot pressure (the sum of static and dynamic pressure). The pitot pressure can be calculated from the fluid velocity provided that the static pressure is negligible. Changes in elevation are ignored. Pitot tubes are commonly used on power boats to measure water velocity. The static pressure is usually small and constant.

Input Variables :

  • ρ = Fluid Density
  • V = Fluid Velocity

Output Variables :

  • Pp = External Fluid Pitot Tube Pressure

Calculation :

Pp = 0.5 V 2 ρ
